Development of a long-term investment steering model translating energy scenarios into CAPEX, HR, and infrastructure needs over a 15-year horizon, for Belgian national grid planning.
The challenge
Long-term investment decisions relied on expert view rather than simulation, making the process slow, hard to scale, and limited to a handful of plausible scenarios. The DSO needed to replace that expert-driven approach with a repeatable simulation model capable of testing more scenarios and producing fast, comparable answers for internal steering and external communication.
The outcome
A working simulation model replacing expert view for long-term grid planning, structured around a repeatable process from scenario to quantified need. Validated on concrete test cases and adopted for use across the organization, giving faster answers for investment steering and tariff negotiations.
